Kenya Biogas Project
Wood and Kerosene fuels used in cooking stoves have important implications for both
health and the environment.
This project involves replacing traditional stoves with biogas stoves that not only
reduce CO2 emissions but also destroy methane which is a greenhouse gas 21 times
more potent than carbon dioxide.
Financial incentives are given to construction firms to build biogas digesters that
replace inefficient stoves. Such digesters also reduce the time Kenyan families spend collecting fuel wood and
help to reduce deforestation rates.
This project passes additionality testing by helping people overcome the initial
financial obstacles that would otherwise prevent construction.
